Why display artwork in your home?
The aesthetic quality of artwork in homes create responses from those who encounter it. Pleasing appearances arouse emotion, thought and hopefully conversation. For example, a date at a museum or gallery is always a safe bet because once the basic 20 questions ends you can seamlessly transition to openly discussing the artwork, therefore eliminating any awkward silences. Posing the idea to the date partner that this date was a success! Let’s face it, we all dread the uncomfortable “soooo” filler to a conversation while we try, desperately, to evoke any sort of new topic to end the torture. I have found myself, as many of you have, in the bitter stop and go conversation, praying someone will spontaneously appear to rescue me from the situation. But never have I needed rescue at a gallery or museum, this wasn’t due to the excellent company but it was due to always having something fascinating to discuss: the artwork. Perhaps, we would have more to talk about at dinner parties, family gatherings, and exciting at home dinner dates if our walls were donned with artwork. Conversations created by discussing art hopefully will lead to really getting to know someone you never thought you would. What used to be the dreaded couples’ dinner party is now the origin of great new friendships, all because you found you could discuss artwork together, leading to other topics and your shared love for Vietnamese food. Who knows? But I know, I am working on having my walls covered with artwork. Art leads to conversation. Be the one to facilitate by displaying creativity, color and design in your home. Trust me, your guests will appreciate it!
